India has become a very popular tourist destination in recent years and that has been a great boon to the traveller. There are now a lot more places to stay in the country than there were a few years ago. That being said you do have to make sure that you have a plan for arranging accommodation. There are still some areas where it can be hard to find a place. More importantly most of the newer places are quite expensive so if you are on a budget you may need to look a little bit harder for a place to stay.

There is a wide range of accommodation available in India so you are going to have to decide on what your budget will allow. You have the choice of anything from a bare bones hostel for a couple of dollars a night to a five star hotel that will cost you hundreds of dollars a night. Obviously you will have to decide on which is right for you. You will have more options in the big cities, if you are travelling in the more remote areas where tourists seldom get to you may have to do some searching for a place to stay.

The easiest way to find a hotel in India is to use the internet. This will allow you to see what options you have available and it will allow you to book online. This offers the significant advantage of ensuring that you have accommodation booked before you arrive. The downside of doing this is that it forces you to stick to a schedule since you will need to be in a certain place on a certain date because you have booked a room for the night. If this is the way that you like to travel there is nothing wrong with this but some people find it to be restricting.

The other option that you have for finding a hotel in India is to simply show up and choose a place to stay when you are there. This offers the advantage of allowing you to follow whatever schedule you want. It also allows you to see the hotel before you commit to staying there, unfortunately not all the pictures on the internet are reliable. The downside of course is that you may find it difficult to find a place. If you are going to do it this way it is still a good idea to book online for your first day or two after arrival since you will probably be in no mood to be looking for a hotel after a long flight.

One other thing that you have to be aware of if you are looking for a place to stay in India, especially if you are planning to arrange accommodation as you go is that there are a great many festivals in the country. During these times finding a room can be a challenge. Make sure that you plan for this.
